Zel Ridenour

Obituary

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on February 7, 2017. Zelda C. Ridenour ‘Zel’, was born to Portuguese immigrants, Eugenia and Manuel Enos on August 13, 1926 in Hayward, CA and was the younger sister to Mary and Joe. Zel spent her formative years living in the Hayward area, graduating from Hayward High. Zel met the love of her life, Bill, on a road trip to Southern California arranged by her brother. After a brief courtship, Bill and Zel were married in 1946 and moved to Sacramento to begin their family. While Bill worked at Procter & Gamble, Zel volunteered at American River Hospital, she bowled in leagues at County Club Lanes and she and Bill danced in the Saraband dance club. After Bill’s retirement from P & G, he and Zel enjoyed traveling with their motor home across the USA and Canada, as well as camp outings with the Traveling Elks. They were HUGE supporters of their grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities and constants in their lives. Zel was a faithful supporter of the Sacramento Kings, San Francisco Giants and the 49ers, watching football games until the very end. A fierce competitor, she loved to play board games, cards and dominos with her friends and family and was a regular in bridge groups in the neighborhood. Zel was fun loving, outgoing, and friendly; she loved her children’s friends and it is evident that they loved her back. She could steal the room with her entrance ‘Grammy’s here’ and will forever be known for her lipstick kisses. Zel is survived by her three children, Sandi Ellis (Don), Debby Blanc (Dennis) and Steve (Jane). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10 AM at East Lawn, Sierra Hills, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA 95841. A luncheon will follow at the Carmichael Elks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice or a charity of your choice.
