Obituary

CARSON, Wilma E.

Passed away in San Rafael, California on 20 January 2014. She was just shy of 100 years old, having been born on 13 May 1914, in Berkeley, California, to the late Frank James Bates and Louise Tomaier Bates. She moved with her parents and sister Isabel to Texas in the 1920’s, and went to school in San Antonio and then in Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. When the economic crash of ’29 come, the family bought a small ranch on the Brazos River, where Wilma spent some of her happiest days riding out the depression as a teenage ranch girl. She fell in love with a cowboy, Corwin C. (Tex) Carson, and they married in 1935. In 1941 they settled in Sacramento with their first son, William, born in 1937. Their second son, Robert was born in 1943. Tex died in 1992, and Wilma lived in Sacramento until 2002, when she moved to San Rafael. In her quiet passing, Wilma was peaceful and content and was happy to have her family around her. She was a real inspiration to her family, friends and acquaintances. One of her main characteristics was bringing positive energy into situations. She was full of grace and was an unwavering optimist: for her, life was a joy. She loved the people she encountered and they loved her. She was a wonderful wife and mother, encouraging and supportative to her family and community as Cub Scout Den Mother, Sacramento Little League Secretary, President of her Sacramento Condominium Association, and President of the Drake Terrace Residents’ Council in San Rafael. And in Sacramento, she established and managed a large anesthesiologists’ office for several years. Wilma is survived by her sons Robert Carson (Larkspur, CA), William Carson (Fort Collins, CO), daughter-in-law Barbara Davis Carson (Fort Collins, CO), granddaughters Sonja Carson Hecker (Durango, CO), Megan Carson Kirsten (Tiburon, CA); grandsons Jackson Carson (Niwot, CO) and Sean Carson (Larkspur, CA), and great granddaughters Alethea Hecker and Rita May Hecker (Durango, CO).
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday 27 January at EAST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95819. Interment to follow.
