William James Jefferson

William James Jefferson (Jeff) was born on December 1, 1926 in Cotton Valley, LA to a farming family of Andrew and Sue Willie Jefferson. Jeff was the seventh of eleven children. Raised in Cotton Valley until Jeff joined the military, where he served in various branches until he was honorably discharged. He then relocated to Richmond, CA, while there, he graduated from junior college, earning a degree in electrical engineering.
Jeff married his wife, Avis Lombard on August 20, 1968 and they lived in Sacramento. Both Avis and Jeff were long time members at Shiloh Baptist Church; Jeff taught Sunday School and held multiple positions within the church. Jeff owned a TV repair business named, “Jeff’s TV Service”, while working at the Army Depot. Jeff was known to his family as “Mr. Fix It.” Jeff loved spoiling his grandchildren and was lovingly known as Papa.
Jeff passed away on August 20, 2019, on what would have been Jeff and Avis’s 51st Wedding Anniversary.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Avis Joyce Jefferson, son-in-Law, Joseph Freeman Jr., parents, Andrew and Sue Willie Jefferson, as well as all of his siblings.
Jeff leaves to mourn his death one daughter, Karen Annette Freeman; two sons, Darrell Williams (Greer) and William Jefferson Jr. (Connie); two grandsons, Joseph Freeman III and Brandon Blymyer; one granddaughter, Victoria Annette Freeman and one great-granddaughter, Ariana Annette Freeman. As well as a host of nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him” Uncle Dub” and special friends, Gloria Farris and Maria Loarca, to cherish his memories.
