William Gaters

William Bumatay Gaters was born December 28, 1931

in Umingan, Pangasinan, Philippines.

The first-born son of Eufrosina (mamang) and Santiago (papang) Gaters.  Brother to Abraham, Henry, late brother Napoleon, Sandy, Norma, late sister Amelia, and Letty. 

William studied theology and settled in practicing law.  He graduated from Manuel L. Quezon University School of law. He became an attorney. 

He met Angelina Devera. After the two graduated from college, they were married. They had 6 kids; Willy, late daughter Eufrosina, Vera, Willie, Christia, and Angeles.  They immigrated to America in 1971.
 They settled in Sacramento, California. 

His children gave him 12 grandchildren; Lina, Justin, Angelina, Jennifer, Eufrosina, Justice, Steven Jr., Jonathan, Martha, Melody, Joann, and Nina. Some of the 12 gave him 10 great grandchildren; Jaeden, Levi, Liberty, Kirei, Lyric, Maliyah, Sean, Sunday, Davina and Joaquin Jr.

He worked for the State of California and after 32 years he retired happily. He spent some of his retirement in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He then moved back to Sacramento.

He loved to give advice and always educate his grandchildren.

He enjoyed all aspects of photography, history and telling stories. He was one of the best comedians. He always wanted to make someone laugh.


He was called to heaven September 11, 2013 at the age of 81.

    My heartfelt condolences. I came across this page while I was trying to locate Rosie. We were in college together @ Sac State. She has a sister named Vera whom I have met also.
