Vivian Mabel Lambert

Jun 13, 1917 - Jan 26, 2016

Vivian Mabel Lambert died peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2016, at Eskaton Village Carmichael. She was born in Chloride, Arizona in 1917, where her father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. She and her family later moved to Fresno where she lived until she met and married Jim Lambert. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Sacramento.
As a young child, Vivian began her musical training with piano lessons from her mother. Thus began her dedicated musical journey from the piano to the organ.
After settling in Sacramento, Vivian and Jim became early members of the Sierra Arden Church of Christ (at that time, Sierra Arden Congregational Church). Vivian served as the church organist for over 30 years. Besides being a dedicated musician, Vivian was an excellent cook and gardener. Her table was always set with flowers from her garden – and with wonderful food. She also excelled at sewing and tailoring.
Vivian is survived by her son, Michael, and her sister, Gertie Rodman. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Lambert, Jr., Caroline Lambert, Amarissa Haynes, and Lear Lambert. She recently became a great grandmother to Miles Haynes.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and two of their sons, Greg and Mark; and by her sisters Alice Poe, Louise Jessee, Harriet Borklund, Evelyn Niswander and Mary Shannon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vivian’s memory to the American Guild of Organists, Sacramento Chapter, or to a fund supporting the music ministry at the Sierra Arden Church of Christ.
A private family graveside committal service was held on January 30, 2016.

Michael and family, just found that Aunt Vivian died almost a year ago. I’m very sad that she was still in the area and I did not know where she was, I tried to find her when her phone and mail were no longer valid. A very sweet lady. We had some really good visits over the years. The last time we visited was near her 90th birthday. Cousin Kathleen

  • Nancy Lambert Williams says:

Dearest Michael, I found Aunt Vivian’s death notice through Ancestry, so I did more checking and found her obituary. I am so sorry to hear she is gone. I have been searching for her for almost 4 years. The last time I thought I had a lead it was connected to you in Massachusetts. I tried to find you…even mailed a letter to an address I found online. My parents both died in 1996 and Dennis died las January. We can no longer travel because my husband, Jim, is on dialysis. Kathi and Larry stop by and visit every time they come through Bakersfield. I would love to hear from you.

  • Jeff Rodman says:

Vivian’s sister Gertie passed away on 12/21/2020, also in her sleep. I am one of her two sons, and Vivian was our favoritte aunt with her husband Jim, and her family. We visited them many times, driving from our home in the LA area (Reseda, Northridge) to theirs in Sacramento, CA.
