Mrs. Versie Lee Brown passed away due to complications from diabetes on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the age of 81.

Mrs. Brown was born on December 9, 1940, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to her parents, Eula and Brooks Woods. She graduated as valedictorian of Lincoln High School in 1958.

Versie married her high school sweetheart, Henry Brown, on July 22, 1961, and embarked on a journey around the world as he served in the U.S. Navy and California Highway Patrol. They lived in Naples, Italy; Gulfport Mississippi; Pasadena, California and Fairfield, California, to name a few before settling in Sacramento, California in 1973.

Mrs. Brown was a passionate advocate for youth development and education. She began her career journey as a parent volunteer at Charles Mack Elementary School’s library and then transitioned to James Rutter Middle School as a campus supervisor. In the mid-1980s, she moved to Valley High School where served in the career center as a post-secondary paraprofessional by coordinating recruiter events and advising students on college options, scholarships, and mentoring opportunities. In addition to her staff responsibilities, Versie volunteered with the Valley High Parent Advisory Council where she coordinated banquets, alumni events, chaperoned dances and supported fundraisers. In addition, she served on several school design and principal search committees for the Elk Grove Unified School District and volunteered on local and state-wide ballot initiatives to fund K-12 education.

In her spare time, Mrs.Brown enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved fashion, decorating and enjoying her rosebush garden. She was a loyal supporter of the Valley High School Vikings and University of California Golden Bears. She had an infinitely generous spirit and deep compassion for the rights of others.

Versie was preceded in death by her parents and her childhood sweetheart and husband of 61 years, Henry Lee Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Candia Liane Brown; granddaughter, Liane Simone Brown, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she cherished.
