April 25, 1920 – November 27, 2017. Tom was born in Sacramento and grew up with six siblings. At 97 years old he passed peacefully into heaven at his home on November 27, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian, of 73 years. Greatly missed by children Michael, (Virida), Beverly, and Steven (Debra). Forever remembered by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Seraphine “Chip” and Ethel Sarmento. He is survived by brother Ed, sister Wilma and many extended family members. Tom served in the Navy from 1942-1946 in Chicago where he and Vivian met and married. Returning to Sacramento after WWII, he was the first purchasing agent at Aerojet and became Partner and Senior Vice President of Wismer and Becker Contracting Engineers. During retirement Tom managed a local office building, enjoyed family gatherings and community events. Tom was an active member in many organizations including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kiwanis, YMCA, Comstock Club, The Salvation Army, and U.S. Olympic Committee for Sacramento. Tom, Vivian and their children were active members of Bethany and Carmichael Presbyterian Church; during retirement they attended Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church. Tom will be forever loved and greatly missed by family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Wells Chapel at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks, CA, 95628 (parking in the back).
