Obituary

Terence Shields McKinney, 84, of Folsom, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at San Juan Mercy Hospital in Carmichael.
Terry was born July 15, 1931 in Yosemite National Park, the oldest of 3 children born to Clifton and Vennie McKinney.
He spent his early childhood in the Bakersfield area and teenage years near Redding California where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Barbara Kloss. They were married in the Logan Temple in July, 1949 and moved to Sacramento in 1951.
He was known for his words of wisdom, being a loving and dedicated husband, a wonderful man, a good example, teacher, hard working father. He was a man of faith and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His favorite things included loving his wife Barbara, making his own chocolate milkshakes made with vanilla ice cream, reading books, watching TV, visiting with family, watching football on TV but listening to it on the radio for better play-by-plays, balloons, serving in his church, speaking in meetings with a joke opener and especially starting a new business.
His quote was “Starting a new business gets me so excited I can’t sleep”.
In his retirement, he attempted to live a life that made him want to jump out of bed in the morning.
Terry was the ultimate optimist, starting a new retail business when he was 83 years old.
He leaves behind his companion of 66 years, Barbara Kloss McKinney, 8 married children (6 boys, 2 girls), 39 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Terry’s memory could be honored by a donation in his name to the Perpetual Education Fund.

Dear Barbara and family We SUHS classmate of Terry, schoolmates of Barbara, learned just yesterday of Terry’s passing last September 1, to our very great regret. We remember Terry well, as classmate,Student Body President, and friend, Thanks be to God, Terry and Barbara were able to join us in Redding for our last class reunion to reacquaint, share more deeply in their wonderful lives together, and to look forward to even more meetings in the future–and that we will, please God. Even though this message comes very late, Terry’s classmates extend our condolences, sympathy and best wishes to Barbara and their family.
