Obituary

Susan (Mary) Sadahire

June 10, 1939 – September 13, 2013

Susan (Mary) Sadahire, 74, of Citrus Heights, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family on September 13, 2013 of lung cancer. She was born in Sacramento on June 10, 1939 to Leland and Evelyn Soto.

Susan attended Saint Frances Catholic School and later graduated from El Camino High School in 1957. While working at Crestwood Manor for a number of years, she worked diligently to earn her licensed vocational nurse certification and ultimately earned her registered nursing degree at age 55. She later worked for and retired from the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center.

A truly wonderful person who showed love and care to everyone with whom she came in contact, Susan was beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her family and her friends. She was genuine, honest and incredibly thoughtful, and showed those around her the true meaning of forgiveness.

Her diagnosis in August 2013 was a shock to her and the family she loved dearly. She was incredibly brave in the face of her illness, thinking first of her family. She always said that her greatest accomplishments were raising her six children, and from their perspective, she was the rock of the family who kept everyone together. Before she passed, she told them with love and humor that they were her “pepples,” the ones she was leaving behind to continue here on Earth in the spirit with which she embraced life and those around her. An incredibly strong, selfless and generous soul, Susan was always determined to help those around her who were in need. She was very artistic, creating scrap books and helping her grandchildren with special school projects. She was an avid reader and dearly loved her dogs, Emma and Dudley.

She was a loving mother to Mike Colbert (San Diego), Anthony Colbert (Placerville), Paul Colbert (Citrus Heights), Jon Colbert (Carmichael), Nanette Young (Roseville), and Charles Sadahire (Roseville).  She is survived by her sisters Carol Calvert (Carlsbad), Nancy Neuburger (Meadow Vista), Jayne Miller (Roseville) and her brother Bud Soto (Roseville). She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren that she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bristol Hospice in memory of Susan, 2140 Professional Drive, Suite 210, Roseville, CA, 95661.

A viewing will be held at East Lawn Sierra Hills, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, on Friday, September 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at East Lawn Sierra Hills on Saturday, September 21 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow.

Susan will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She will be in our hearts forever.

Growing up in the ’60s and ’70s, Sue was a second mom to most kids in the neighborhood. She always had a smile and kind words to say and made the world a better place; the sort of legacy that most dream of leaving behind. I know she was a great help and comfort to my mother through some very difficult times too. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family–God bless you all.
