Sue Yenovkian was born January 1, 1923, in Manhattan, New York, the daughter of Stephen and Agnes Bajakian. She passed away on October 9, 2012, in Sacramento, California. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Mary; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family, both in California and in New York.
At a young age, Sue lost both of her parents. She lived for a short time with family in New York. In the 1930’s, Sue moved to the San Fernando Valley of California. After high school and during WWII, Sue proudly contributed to the war effort building planes as a Rosie the Riveter. In 1946, she married and moved to Sacramento, where she lived for the last 66 years. Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Aram Yenovkian; her cherished son, Richard Yenovkian; and her dear brother, John Bajakian.
Sue’s late husband Aram introduced her to casinos, horse racing and golfing, which she continued to enjoy throughout most of her life. Sue had the good fortune to have achieved two holes in one during her golfing career. She loved entertaining and was known as a great cook. Sue served as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, and PTA member. She was a member of both Haggin Oaks and Bing Maloney Women’s Golf Clubs. She was an active member of St. James Armenian Church.
Sue will be remembered for her warm and enduring love of family and friends, her great humor, positive outlook and radiating smile. She exuded class, elegance, strength, and kindness. She left a mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 11:00 a.m., at the Chapel at East Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Folsom Boulevard, Sacramento 95819. Remembrances may be made to St. James Armenian Church Building Fund, 3240 B Street, Sacramento, 95816
