My name is Robin and I’m the Riverside County 9-1-1 Coordinator. For many years Sofia was our consultant for the State of CA. She was an awesome person. So helpful. When conversing with her, she made everyone feel like they were special. She gave her undivided attention to you.

Quite a few years ago at one of the CalNena conferences (that’s what they were called back then), she and I were up a late so we decided to have dessert together at the hotel restaurant. It was a chance for me to spend some quality time with a truly wonderful person. My prayers go out to Sofia’s family and friends. She will be missed.

  • Janet Steinhoff says:

I am sad to hear the news of Sofia’s passing. I only had the opportunity to meet her a few times over the past couple of years, but she was so kind helping me to maneuver my way through State paperwork when I was newly promoted to a Manager position. She was so patient and helpful! Thank you Sofia!

  • Marilyn Maestas says:

My name is Marilyn Maestas and I am with the Barstow Police Department (San Bernardino County). I never had the opportunity to meet Sofia in person; however, we spoke on the telephone many times. She got me through the piles of paperwork our agency needed to submit to the State for our PSAP’s 911 CPE Allotment. She was so sweet & patient, and I remember the many times we would just laugh instead of getting frustrated. This is truly a loss. Prayers to her family and extended family at the DOJ. Thank you Sofia for all the great years of service!!

Sofia at work at the 911 Branch. She was a dear friend and wonderful co-worker that will be missed greatly. Sofia always had a smile and warm greeting for you each morning.

  • Lisa Mathiasen says:

Sofia was always so willing to answer my questions whenever I needed help with CPE funding, reimbursements or just any other questions. She was always patient and kind and I truly appreciated her graciousness. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family in this sad time.

    To the family,

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one. Losing someone that means so much to you can be very hard, but please know that God promises to keep her in his memory and will soon reunite you together. Until that time may you cherish the many memories you shared together as they too can be a source of comfort. (John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4)

  • Amethyst Uchida says:

I knew Sofia through her work at the State of California. Like many others, I appreciated her graciousness and dedication. One specific memory that stands out for me is attending my first meeting in Sacramento. I didn’t really know anyone but I decided to approach Sofia and LJ and invited myself to lunch with them. It was kind of them to say yes, and I had lunch in good company instead of alone at a deli! Forever after, I was the happy recipient of Sofia’s warm greeting at every meeting and event I attended with her.
I am so saddened by this news and my heart is with Sofia’s family and friends. Bless you, Sofia and RIP.

  • Theresa Williams says:

    Godspeed Sophia…fly with the angels.

I worked with Sofia at the CA 9-1-1 Branch as her supervisor for many years and my last year before retirement she was my supervisor! She was very dedicated to her job and did it well. She was very well liked and respected by her peers and all of her public safety agencies statewide . She will be missed!! Sofia and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Ryan Dulin says:

I was lucky to have worked with and known Sofia. I’ll remember some of the great laughs and light hearted teasing we did. She was a remarkable and wonderful person. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

  • Cyndee Freeman says:

My heart goes out to Sofia’s family, friends and the 911 PSAP Community who lost someone very special. I had the pleasure of working with Sofia on many projects throughout the years. Looking at the picture posted here, I can honestly say, I do not ever remember seeing her without that big beautiful smile. Thank you my friend for your guidance and dedication to the PSAPs of California.

  • I will miss your smile and laughter. As kids growing up and throughout adulthood, you remained consistent. Such a caring and sweet spirit. I’m not surprised you landed a career in public service. Who would have thought we both would pursue careers as public servants? I will always remember the times we spent together at family gatherings and summer vacations. We were always glad to see one another! As kids we played and laughed. As adults we reminisced about old times and laughed until our sides hurt. Thank you for being you!!!! Rest In Peace cousin!! I love you Fia.
