Silas Means Turner Sr.
Silas M. Turner Sr. departed this life on the evening of Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Mercy San Juan Hospital. He was 90 years of age having been born on October 16, 1920 in Citronelle, Alabama.
Mr. Turner was a retiree of the federal government but during his life he also served in the US Army (WWII veteran), was a merchant marine and was a small business owner. He was a member of Murph Emmanuel AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Brainard and Minnie Turner), his wife (Addie G. Dennis-Turner), his brothers (Steve, Ellis and Sphinx), his sisters (Zenobia, Mayola, Minnie and Mary), and his step-son (Anthony Hendricks). He is survived by five children, Silas M. Turner Jr., Gwendolyn A. Turner, Gary L. Turner, Terry B. Turner, and Beverly E. Turner Willrich: two daughters-in-law, Gloria Forniss Turner and Brenda Lane-Turner; 10 grandchildren, Tyronnda, Shanetta, Silas III, Todd, Taronda, Taize, Terry Jr., Anthony, Mandel, and Nickolas; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
East Lawn Mortuary on Greenback Lane has charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 4:00 Pm to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the funeral home. The private family service will be held on Wednesday.
