Shelby Chong, 82, a long-time resident of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 23, 2017.
Shelby is survived by his wife Helen, son Ronald Chong and his wife Sonia with grandchildren Kyle, Emily and Alex; daughter Rosanna Chong Lee and her husband Walter with grandchildren Matthew, Brandon and Jordan; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Shelby was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all and will be missed deeply.
Shelby immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 and settled in Sacramento working as a butcher at various grocery stores including Jumbo Market and Bel-Air. He loved spending time with his family, especially going out to eat Dim Sum with his grandchildren. He also roasted and carved the most delicious Prime Rib during the holidays. During his retirement, he enjoyed relaxing at home watching TV, singing karaoke and attending parties with family and friends. Shelby and Helen recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park & Mortuary on Friday, July 28. Funeral services/internment for Shelby will be at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park & Mortuary on Saturday, July 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
