Dr. Ruth Kekina CHUN
Ruth Kekina Chun was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and passed away on February 5, 2016 in Sacramento from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. She was a witness to the attack on Pearl Harbor and a graduate of the University of Hawaii. Seeking further education, she boarded a troop ship, a train and went to Wisconsin where she graduated from Marquette University Dental School. She did post graduate studies at the University of Chicago Hospital and clinics. Later she practiced pediatrics dentistry in Sacramento, Auburn, and Guam. It was at dental school where she met and married her husband, Dr. Stanley Chun with whom they shared 66 years together. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Kamai Kekina Sr. and Ella Lum Kekina, brothers Samuel Jr., Clarence, Moses and sister Violet. Her survivors include her husband Stanley, sons Eric and Curtis, grandson Matthew and sister Hilda. Services for Ruth will be at the East Lawn Chapel, 4300 Folsom Blvd. on Saturday, February 13 at 2:00 pm. In her memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Placer County Library or any organization of your choice.
