Obituary

Ruth is at peace, passing away May 11 at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Doris Kehm, her husband William Karall, and her daughter Barbara. She is survived by her husband Joseph Cerniglia, her sister Loretta Rutzen, her daughter Trudy Scully (David), step children Toni Cerniglia, Steve Cerniglia, Karen Veliquette (Ted), Joe Cerniglia Jr. (Colleen), 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

As a young child, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she met William Karall. They married in January 1942 and had two children. Ruth spent her working career managing the cafeterias and food service for Park Ridge School District 64. They resided in Des Plaines, Illinois until relocating to Citrus Heights, California in 1987. William passed away in August 1992. In July 2001, Ruth married Joseph Cerniglia and they were married for more than 15 years at the time of her passing.

She loved entertaining, cooking, baking, and holiday festivities. Her “grandma cookies” were always a welcome treat. Her energy and smile would light up any room. With weekly trips to the beauty shop, her hair and nails were always perfect, even when swimming in the ocean in Hawaii. Her loving warmth will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service Wednesday, June 7 at Advent Lutheran Church, 5901 San Juan Avenue, Citrus Heights, California, 95621.

Ruth was the true high light in my Noni’s life. She brought him so much joy and energy, made him feel like a kid again. She brought warmth and a vivacious spark to our family. I was proud to call her grandma and she was cherished by my son.
