Roy Taichi Iwata
Dec 12, 1928 - Jun 28, 2011
IWATA, Roy Taichi
Born December 12, 1928 in Sacramento, CA. Passed away June 28, 2011 in Sacramento, CA. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Tsuna; children, Kenneth, Gregory (Toshie), Chris (Susan) and Nancy Roskoff (Paul); and grandchildren, Midori and Sean. Preceded in death by his parents, Ichiro and Shigeno; and brothers, Robert and Edward. Like most Japanese Americans, he endured internment, with his family assigned to Tule Lake and then Topaz. After the war, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of Technical Sergeant and served in Japan just after World War II, where he met Tsuna. Roy worked for the State of California for 37 years, retiring as a manager in the Fingerprint unit of the Department of Justice. The family is grateful to the many people who helped care for Roy through his recent illnesses and gave all of us precious extra time with him. In particular, we wish to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at Sutter General Hospital, Primrose Senior Community, Lynn Mazur, Shelly Tabor, and Reiko Matsumura-Orozco. The family requests that in lieu of kodon or flowers, donations be made to the charity of their choice in Roy’s memory. Arrangements by George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers.
