Obituary

SMITH, Ronald L.
God took Ronald L. Smith, to be at his side on Tuesday, Jan. 17. He was born in Sacto, CA on June 16, 1933. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Lee Marie Smith, after 37 1/2 yrs of marriage. He has two surviving children, Michelle Foster, Michael Smith, and Gary Senn (who unexpectedly passed away in 2009), one granddaughter Sarah Shea, one grandson Nathan Foster, who also passed away at age 12, unexpectedly, in 1996. Ronald, was born an only child, however, he spent many treasured holidays and other precious moments with his wife’s side of the family, sisters, Betty Summers, Cindy Souza, Bonnie Robbins, and one brother Steve Erickson, along with their spouses. He also had fun with his nieces, Denee, Aubrey, Heidi, and Staci, nephews, Jeff, Steve, Kevin, and Andy, along with their children.

He was a 1951 graduate of McClatchy High School. Ron worked for the State Board of Equalization, and retired after over 44 years. He created car pooling for State workers in the 1960s and after several years, handed all of his info over to Cal Trans. He loved work and returned as a Retired Annuitant for 13 years. From the beginning of his career and after retirement, Ron served as an officer and delegate for California State Employees Association.

At the age of 17, Ron, joined the California Army National Guard and retired after over 43 1/2 years of dedicated service.

Amazingly, in 1973 he also helped create a clown club CAOS, Clown Alley of Sacramento, and was also the Taco Bell Clown. He loved putting a smile on the faces of both the young and old, making balloon animals, participating in many parades, and visiting rest homes. Ron, was known for the love he shared for his wife Lee, for his sharing and caring for others, his cheerful songs, and just putting a smile on the faces of others.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held Thursday, Jan. 26 at 10:00 AM, at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacto. CA, 95842. A reception will be held after the burial at St. John Vianney Church in the Fireside room, at 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, 95670.

We love you Ron!
