Roger Nickell, born April 26, 1970 in Sacramento, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on February 15. He died as a result of complications from heart failure. He grew up in the Glenbrook neighborhood and graduated from Sacramento HS. A veteran of the US Marine Corps and a talented professional chef, he worked in commercial construction as a member of the Iron Workers Union Local No. 378 at the time of his passing. He was proud of his Nez Perce and Pomo Native American heritage. JR, a “brother” to many, was extremely giving and genuine. He adored his nieces and nephew. He was an avid photographer, hiker, and all around outdoorsman. He is survived by his loving sister Connie Nickell, nieces Kimberley McHaney and Elizabeth Phipps, nephew Logan Phipps, girlfriend Sara Durant, sister Karen Boss, aunt Barbara and uncle Harry Aderhold, and many more family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Kim Nickell and aunt Marlene Aderhold. Services will take place on Friday, March 23 at East Lawn Memorial Park at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Assn, UC Davis Health System-Neurology, or the SPCA are appreciated.
