Roberta Earlene Murray

Roberta Murray, longtime resident of Auburn, California, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on the afternoon of July 7, 2017. She was 84.
Born on May 28, 1933 in Lakewood, California to Earl and Leola Temby, Roberta grew up in Long Beach as a strong student participating in Marching Band and Volleyball, and spending time with her two friends, Vashti and Audrey, who would remain close throughout their lives.
After attending Poly High School and graduating from Long Beach State University with her degree, she relocated with family to Colfax to start her teaching career in elementary education.
Soon after, she met Robert “Bud” Murray, the love of her life. They married in June of 1959, and moved to Auburn to raise their daughter, Robin, and their son, Bob. Always supporting her family and community, and teaching in Colfax, Alta and Auburn, Roberta was also active as a Girl Scout leader, in Eastern Star as Worthy Matron and many other offices, Placer Pacers Walking Club (American Volkssport Assoc.), an adult advisor for Job’s Daughters and DeMolay, and many other activities.
After retiring from the Auburn Union School District, Roberta’s greatest joy was in spending time with her family including her grandchildren Sean and Jade. Attending and /or volunteering at all of their activities including Tae-Kwon- Do, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Marching, Concert and Jazz Bands, Roberta could be seen in the stands or on the sidelines helping, cheering and supporting. She had so many gifts to share including a contagious laugh, strength, many visits to Disneyland and Disney World, hummingbirds, flower gardens and backyard BBQs.
Roberta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bud, her daughter, Robin Kister of Folsom, her son, Bob Murray and Daughter-in-law Tonya of El Dorado Hills, and her grandchildren Sean Murray and Jade Murray of El Dorado Hills. At Roberta’s request, there will not be a formal memorial service, but a gathering will be organized and announced soon in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to a music organization of your choice.
