Ramon B. St John completed his tour of duty on this earth Tuesday, 12/06/2011, at the age of 91 after a brief yet forceful fight of a sepsis infection.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was trained as a radio operator at Scott AFB, Illinois, after which he flew as radio operator and instructor on B17 Bombers (also known as the Flying Fortress), deployed in British West/North Africa from 1944 to 1946. After WWII he continued his military career at the rank of Sargent Major, assigned to 1813 AACS Group, Bushy Park, England from 1951-1953, and HQ MATS, Andrews AFB, Washington DC from 1953-1958. From 1961 thru 1963 Sargent Major St John was assigned to the Allied Air Forces Southern Europe (NATO) in Naples, Italy and then assigned to HQ USAFE in Wiesbaden, Germany from 1964 to 1965. His last permanent station of duty was HQ SQ SEC Western GEEIA Region, at McClellan AFB, California where he retired in 1970.
He attended American River Junior College receiving an AA Degree and gained employment with the Federal Army Civil Corp of Engineers as a Budget Analyst from which he retired sometime during the 1980’s.
Ramon was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico to Agneda Baca & Ramon Chavez St John. He is predeceased by his brother Lloyd St John, sister Mabel St John Gonzales, his wife of 57 years Garnet (Johnson) St John, son Ramon Douglas St John, and daughter Bernadette St John Ebbert who are all waiting for him to join them. He is survived in life and greatly missed by his youngest daughter and caretaker, Belen Garnette St John and grandson Richard Travis Ebbert.
His memorial service will be on December 19, 2011, at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA with Visitation at 1:00 PM, the Rosary at 1:30, Prayers, Eulogy and 21 Gun Military Salute beginning at 2:00 PM
