Obituary

Pauline Shirley Dettrey (85) passed away suddenly on May 26, 2014. Pauline was born December 18, 1928 in Olean, New York and was the youngest of 7 children to Fredrick Lewis Walters and Myrna May Rechenberger, who preceded her in death along with her Brothers William, George, James and Richard, Sister Winifred and her oldest son James F Dettrey.

Pauline married Paul Dettrey April 14, 1951 in Olean, New York and upon starting their family they moved to Los Angeles, Ca in 1962, where they both worked and enjoyed their square dancing. Pauline worked for the local school district in Simi Valley, Ca and upon their children growing up and Paul retiring they decided to sell the home and travel. They settled for a few years in Deming, New Mexico where Pauline worked in the local grocery store as a baker and Paul got to play cowboy. They then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1985 where she worked in the Culinary Department of the Las Vegas Hilton and in 1993 she had to retire due to health reasons. They resided in Las Vegas until 2006 when her husband passed. She then moved to live with her brother William in Bellingham, Washington January 2007, but due to his and her health reasons, she then moved to Colorado Springs, Co to live with her youngest son Joseph and his family in August 2007, she then made another move back to Las Vegas due to her son getting transferred for his job and again job transfer took the family to Lincoln, California in September 2013. She loved to cook and bake as well as arts and crafts, especially crocheting and on occasions she would enjoy playing video poker at the local casino.

Pauline is survived by her two sons John Dettrey and wife Svetlana of Colorado Springs, Joseph Dettrey and wife Alice of Sacramento, Linda Dettrey ( Daughter in Law) of Las Vegas, her five grandchildren Renee Myers of Las Vegas, Frank Dettrey (Tina) of Pasco, Washington, Paul O’Dell (Aspen) of Colorado Springs, Nicholas Dettrey of Las Vegas, and Heather Dettrey of Sacramento and her seven great grandchildren Alex, Sierra, Marissa and Emily Myers of Las Vegas, Bailee and Kaci Dettrey of Pasco, Washington and Aurora O’Dell of Colorado Springs, and brother Jack Walters of New York.

There were no services per Pauline’s wishes and her ashes will be taken by her family to be placed on the island of Maui, HI.

    Remember visting your mom and dad when u lived in ny. I was only a kid then, they where my aunt and uncle, and very good people. Sorry for your lose.
