Oliveiro Fernandes Avis, 90, died May 3, 2022 at his home in Sacramento, California.  He was born February 9, 1932, in Brava, Cape Verde Islands. 

He was the son of Joseph Peter Avis and Catarina Andrade Avis. Oliveiro married Eugenia Sousa on April 7, 1962 and they resided in California ever since.

Oliveiro worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 41 years as a carmen and also worked in carpentry.  He enjoyed carpentry, working on his home, and spending time with his family and friends.  During his retirement years he especially enjoyed the time spent with his four grandchildren and traveling. 

He is survived by his spouse of 60 years Eugenia Sousa Avis, his daughter Julia Avis Montgomery, son John Oliver Avis, four grandchildren Trevor Daniel Montgomery, David Joseph Avis, Oliver Noah Avis and Catarina Isabelle Avis.

Oliveiro will be entombed with military honors in a celebration of life on May 10, 2022.
