Nola Pauline Chapman
Polly was born in Maud, Oklahoma, Oct. 04, 1922, and joined the Lord’s family after a long illness on Jan. 31, 2014.Ca., for more than forty (40) years where she taught elementary school and raised her family.
Polly came to Oakland as a young 22 year old right off the farm from Maud, Ok., and began working and joined the war effort by working at the Moore Shipyard the day after she arrived in Oakland.. Shortly after working in the shipyard, she met her late husband, William H. Chapman, and they were married January 6, 1944. They raised their family in east Oakland. Their three children attended Sherman Elementary, Frick Jr. High and Fremont High School. Polly and her late husband (Bill) operated the Green House Restaurant in the Fairfax District of Oakland, and she later worked as a waitress for several years before returning to school at Alameda State College in Hayward to complete her teaching credential and graduated in what is now University of East Bay’s first graduating class.
Polly loved people; family get togathers, cooking, sewing, her gardens, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and her dogs; Sadie and Baxter, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Polly was all about her family. She enjoyed her years working for the Oakland Public Schools and most of all producing her choirs and the children’s plays, which she directed during the holidays and special events. Polly and Bill left Oakland and resided for several years on the Russian River at Guerneville and moved from there to Sacramento to be close to family. Then Polly moved to Rancho Murieta to be close to her daughter and grand children.
