Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Neeltje de Hoop Schurer (Nell) announces her passing in Elk Grove California.
Nell was born in 1919 and passed away on January 28, 2016. Born in Holland in the town of Wieringerwaard to Thijs de Hoop and Neeltje Boersma, the youngest of 6 children.

Married to Hank Schurer August 12, 1948 in Molkwar, Holland, three years after the end of WWII.

Immigrated to the United states with their 4 young children in 1961, to start a dairy farm in California and join her brother’s in this land of opportunity.

Resided in Waterford, Oakdale, Tracy, Modesto, Merced and finally settling in Elk Grove, California.

Nell was devoted to her God and her Family. Her passions in life included serving others, spending time with loved ones, and being a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed baking her family’s beloved Dutch pastries, knitting, crocheting, sewing and needlepoint.

A selfless give, her legacy is of remarkable faith in God, and strength. A Woman of Integrity and pride. So sweet and kind. Nell and her husband Hank were active in the Dutch Reformed Church. They were married for 55 years.

Nell is survived by her cherished son Pier of Oakdale (Sandy -predeceased), Henry (Andrea) of West Sacramento, Anna (Ray) of Rio Vista, California. Loving grandmother of Tammy, Thys, Pier, Michelle, Jennifer, Aaron, Matt, Emily, Janell, Melissa, Stephanie and Stacey. 15 great grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild.

Also survived by several nieces and nephews in Netherlands and California, brother and sister in law Ype and Janny Schurer in Holland and cousins Lolke and Appie Smid of Canada.

Nell was predeceased by her beloved son Thys Schurer, husband Hank Schurer, daughter in Law Sandy Schurer and her siblings.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, February 4 at 2 pm at the Chapel at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove
