PETERS, Myron Donald
Myron Donald “Fritz/Pete” Peters passed away on October 20, 2011 in Eureka, CA. He was born in Cannon Falls, MN on February 27, 1919 to Frederick and Harriet Peters; the fourth of six children. While he was still quite young, the family moved to Lemoine, CA where Pete spent his childhood and youth. Pete’s father owned a one truck produce delivery service, and as soon as Pete and his brothers were tall enough to “see over the steering wheel and reach the pedals” they began to help their father with the driving. As their father aged, Pete and his older brother Walt ran the company, which became Peters Truck Lines, for many years, hauling freight between Yreka, Sacramento, and the Bay Area. In the early 1960’s Walt bought Pete’s half and spent the rest of his career driving for Associated Freight and Wilkins Drayage. Additionally, Pete was very proud of his military Service in WWII. He served with the 432nd AAF Base Unit (Mobile Radar and Communications) in several locations in both the European and African theaters including Normandy, Ploesti, France, Tunisia, Egypt, Naples and others. Immediately upon his return in 1945 he married Erma Ethredge, his sweetheart he met while stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. After Pete was discharged they moved to Sacramento, CA where he continued in the family trucking business. They had 3 children, and a 4th who died in infancy. After Erma’s death in 1961, he remarried to Daphne McDae and gained 2 additional small children. The expanded family moved to El Dorado County, where Pete and Daphne began to raise Appaloosa horses and Pete continued to drive truck. In 1977, after Pete retired from trucking, he and Daphne moved to East Texas along with two of the girls and their families. They purchased a 60 acre ranch, raised cattle, and more actively pursued horse breeding. Pete also worked for several years at International Paper during this time. After Daphne’s death in 1987, Pete stayed on at the ranch, enjoyed traveling to FL to visit one of his daughters and granddaughter, as well as spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren who lived in TX. Pete also enjoyed those around him, including his many local friends and neighbors. After returning to CA in 1993 to see his children and grandchildren who had remained there, he made a point to take yearly trips out west to visit thereafter, until eventually returning to CA for good in 2005. Pete is survived by one son, Jim Peters of Somerset, CA and daughters Denise Mazer of Palmetto, FL; Zandra Peters of Tyler, TX; Rachel Stanley of Burleson, TX; and Carol Ordonez of Redway, CA; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park, 43rd Street and Folsom Blvd., Sacramento on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 1:00 PM under the direction of Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary, Fortuna, CA.
