Obituary

On July 22, 2016, we lost a very special lady. Minnie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, relative, and friend to all. She passed away at the age of 101 surrounded by her loving family. Born Minnie Sohrakoff on December 4, 1914 in San Francisco, California, the second oldest in a family of nine children, she spent her early years in Oregon before returning with her family to California, first to Colusa and then to Wheatland where they farmed. In her early years she helped around the farm and with the care of younger siblings. Later she worked at the cannery and after marriage helped her husband with their Popoff Hardwood Floors Company. She met the love of her life, John Popoff of Sheridan, California, at a baseball game in Wheatland. They married on June 30, 1940, and together they had four children Janice, John (Kathleen), Barbara, and Margie (John). She was so loving and proud of all her children and grandchildren, Raymond, Patty (Erik), Ivan (Angela), and Kevin and her great grandchildren, Brennan, Christian, Jayden, Kacey (Allison), Viktor, Anna, and Maksim. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her brother John Sohrakoff, and sisters Vera Harvey, Nette McCallson, and Dorothy Ann Patellos, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is reunited in death with John, her loving husband of 73 years, parents Paul and Anna Sohrakoff, sister Nelle Preston, and brothers William, Paul, and Nick Sohrakoff. Family and friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Minnie’s life. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 2, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at 11:00 am at the Sheridan Cemetery, Ranch House Road, Sheridan, CA followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at the Turkey Creek Golf Club, 1525 Highway 193, Lincoln, CA.
