Michele Dyke

Mar 24, 1964 - Feb 25, 2016

Michele Dyke was born March 24, 1964 in Oakland, California to Sam and Marsha Dyke. She grew up in Berkeley, California and graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1982.
Michele attended UC Davis and in 1986 earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Development. She later received her Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership from California State University, Sacramento in 2009.
Michele enjoyed life and found happiness in spending time with family and friends. She was a caring daughter, a loving mother and devoted partner.
Anyone who knew Michele knew she had a big heart and a kind soul. As a mentor and friend to many, she sought to find the best in people and encouraged them to reach their full potential. She will be remembered for the many cards she sent on special occasions, the calls she made just to say “thinking of you” and the beautiful goodie baskets she delivered in celebration of a job well done. If asked to describe Michele, her friends and loved ones would all say she was a selfless, understanding and compassionate human being and a marvel at bringing sunshine to the lives of all that she touched.
For more than 30 years, Michele was an active member of the UC Davis community. Her service to the campus community began when she was a student. Under the tutelage of campus administrators such as Yvonne Marsh and the late Leslie Campbell, she devoted much time to developing and strengthening campus programs that provided students the opportunity to be campus leaders and celebrate the rich African American history. She also served the campus through professional staff positions in Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and most recently the Early Academic Outreach Program, where she served as Director. In all of these capacities, Michele held firm to her goal of improving the pipeline and removing obstacles to higher education for students, especially students from underserved communities. She was an advisor to students, a confidant to colleagues and a consummate professional. Michele received several awards for her contributions to the campus, most recently the African Continuum Humanitarian Award in February 2016. She retired from UC Davis on February 8, 2016.
After a 2-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, Michele passed on February 17, 2016. She is survived by her parents, Sam and Marsha Dyke; a devoted partner, Clinton Brown; and two children, Cherelle and Jordan Brown. She is also survived by many other loving and devoted relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd, on Monday, February 29, from 4-8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Progressive Baptist Church, 7650 Amherst Street, Sacramento. Repast immediately after the service.
