MSgt. Michael R. Cannon

Michael R. Cannon was born to Luther and Margie Cannon on May 10, 1954 in Gary, Indiana.

Michael graduated from West Side High School in Gary, Indiana in 1972. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in July 1972. His active duty military career expanded over an 8 year period thru September 1980.  He was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in California.  During his tour of duty he was afforded the opportunity to travel to places such as England, Kuwait and several other locations. Michael was awarded the following during his military career: Air Force Longevity Service Award with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Bronze Leaf Cluster, Professional Military Education Award, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Bronze Leaf Cluster. In 1980 he became a civilian employee at McClellan Air Force Base and later transferred to Travis Air Force Base where he also joined the Air Force Reserves.  Through his hard work and dedication, he rose to rank of Master Sergeant.

On February 3, 2012, Michael retired from his civilian duties with Travis Air Force Base.  In addition, Michael retired from the Air Force Reserves on March 21, 2012.  He will be remembered for his passion for black Corvettes, being a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan, cooking for any and all occasions, the love for his military work career, and for just being “Mike”.

Michael was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer December 2010 and fought hard till the end.  He departed this world to be with the Lord on May 8, 2012 and was preceded in death by his father Luther Cannon , sister Janet Cannon-Davis, and granddaughter Evelyn Lang-Cannon.  Michael leaves to cherish his devoted wife Gail Cannon; his mother Margie Cannon of Antelope, CA; his two children Shavana (Chris) Fisher of Sacramento, CA;  Michael T. Cannon (Tiffany) of Carmichael, CA; two grandchildren Brianna and Chris Fisher Jr. of Sacramento, CA;  stepsons Miguel and Mario Hall of Sacramento, CA ; step grandchildren Treyvon, Zaire, and Chloe Hall of Sacramento, CA; two brothers Jerry Cannon of Los Angeles, CA;  Jeffrey (Cassandra) Cannon of Gary, Indiana; three sisters Brenda Cannon of Griffith, Indiana; Cheryl Cannon of Gary, Indiana; and Cynthia Cannon of Sacramento, CA; Uncle Melvin (Evelyn) Elkins of Gary, Indiana, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Because of his great love for his family and friends Michael would want the memories of him to be of those things that will bring a smile to your face and comfort your heart, knowing that he has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Although we feel a deep sorrow and sadness because of the loss of our loved one, we know that God makes no mistakes.  We truly thank and praise God for sharing Michael with us 57 years and 363 days to love him and to be loved by him.

Dad, It still seems so unreal that you are gone. I know if you had it your way you would still be here. I admire the fight you fought and for your will to live. You will always be remembered for being a great Dad and Grandpa. Now you have transitioned to be our Guardian Angel. Love you lots!!!

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. And may your memories always bring a smile to your face. Know…, your father is where no saddness or pain is allowed. Just LOVE..
