MAYME LEE WONG
Mayme was born on May 4, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to Huie Fung Tan and Lock Mon Lee. She and her family moved to Baker, Oregon in the 1940’s where her father opened a restaurant where she worked through her high school years.
Mayme went on to attend University of California at Berkeley, where she met, dated and eventually married Jason C. Wong in 1955. After graduating from Cal, Mayme and Jason moved to Sacramento to start Jason’s optometric practice and raise their five daughters; Janice, Karen, Susan, Sami and Vanessa.
After teaching elementary school for a few years, Mayme dedicated her life to raising her five daughters, passing on her love of travel, reading, cooking, eating and most of all her sense of humor. She was incredibly proud of her ten grandchildren – Jason, Jonathan, Daniel, Wes, Alex, Eli, Jack, Lola, Ryan and Maddie. Mayme loved and cherished her grandchildren, passing along stories of them to anyone who would listen.
Besides enjoying her family, Mayme spent her time doing what she loved; traveling with her husband until his death in 2002, and then with her good friends, the “birthday girls”. She also enjoyed her weekly lunches with her good friends, entertaining and amusing restaurant staff across Sacramento.
Mayme leaves a life well-lived, wishing her friends and family good humor and good food. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sutter Medical Center Foundation or Sacramento Childrens Home
