Mary Lee Wilbur

Jul 5, 1935 - May 24, 2013

Mary Lee Wilbur passed away at her home on Friday, May 24, 2013; she was 77 years old. She is survived by her husband Pete Wilbur and her two sons, Paul and Michael. Mary had two daughter-in-laws, Mardelle and Karyn as well as five grandchildren:  Nathan, Anna, Maren, Abby, Sara and one great grandchild, Ijah. Mary was born on July 5, 1935 in Oakland, California to Henry and Elena Pierotti. She grew up in a tight Italian community and attended the University of California, Berkeley where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in art creating the foundation from which she built a life-long passion for water color. She won several awards at the county fair and her artwork could be seen at various locations around town.

Mary met Pete a few years after college when the two were neighbors in Hayward, California. After moving to Yuba City, they finally settled in Davis where Pete finished out his career and Mary worked as a teacher. Mary had a deep love for working with children and taught school off and on for over 30 years. She also sold real estate in Davis for Harrison, ReMax and Lyon Realty. Pete and Mary also enjoyed traveling and shared many adventures together up until her illness made it difficult to do so.

Mary devoted much of her time to various charities and her family. She was also extremely active in the Catholic Church and participated in various programs with the church during her life. Her spirituality often guided her in tough times and provided her with peace toward the end of her life. Those close to her appreciated her ability to listen and to give wonderful advice. She was never quick to judge and always showed compassion for those less fortunate or unable to defend themselves. She often ignored her own needs to help others. Mary will be missed.

There will be mass and reception at Saint James Church in Davis, California on June 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The reception will immediately follow the mass at the social hall. The public is invited to both events to honor and celebrate Mary’s life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, California 95617 or the charity of the donor’s choice.

  • Barbara Reid says:

Being friends with Mary’s nephew, John Pierotti and his wife Diane I have had the honor of knowing Mary for many years. Mary was always filled with a great sense of fun and carried the ultimate sense of humor. Her kindness, indomitable spirit, laughter and love will be fondly remembered by me and those who knew her. May the entire family find peace in remembering the good times with her, the blessing of having had her in your lives and the love you will carry with you always. My sincerest condolances. Barbara
