Oct 4, 1916 - Jun 5, 2011
TURNER, Mary Caroline
Born Mary Caroline Maglinger in Owensboro, KY on Oct. 4, 1916, Carol Turner passed away peacefully at home in Sacramento on June 5, 2011 at the age of 94. One of 13 children born to John and Flora Belle Maglinger, Carol was raised on a farm in Kentucky and eventually met and married the love of her life, Joseph Robert ‘Bob’ Turner in 1936. The couple had one child, Donald Robert Turner, and made their lives in Minneapolis, MN and Evansville, IN for many years, and during World War II, Carol worked on assembly lines helping to build airplanes. Bob and Carol relocated to Sacramento in 1983 to be close to their son and grandchildren. Carol was a loving wife and mother to Bob and Don, and was a member of the St. Ignatius Loyola parish in Sacramento for the last 28 years of her life.
She will be remembered for her love of gardening, flowers, playing the piano (by ear), cheeseburgers and a daily dose of vanilla ice cream, but mostly for her generosity, kindness, positive outlook on life, and love of family.
She will be greatly missed by her son Don Turner; grandchildren Rob Turner (and wife Elyssa Lee) and Melissa Richards (and husband John Richards); great-grandchildren Carson, Jake and Sam Richards; and sisters Ruby Roberts and Temple Young.
All who knew her are invited for the memorial mass on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10am at St. Ignatius Church at 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, 95825. In lieu of flowers, please direct any contributions to St. Ignatius.
