Evans, Mary Lou Hawkley
Mary Lou Hawkley-Evans, Age 82, passed away peacefully on January 22nd, 2012, in Elk Grove, CA, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born April 17th, 1929, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Joe E. and Margaret E. Meese. At the age of seven, her family moved from Oklahoma to Monterey Park, CA, where she attended school. She graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, CA in 1946.
Mary Lou held various jobs throughout the years. She was the County Librarian of Calaveras County, CA in the 1960’s and eventually retired from Sacramento County.

Her favorite pastimes included traveling and visiting friends and family. She was selfless when it came to caring for a friend, family member or stranger in need.

Mary Lou was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, participating in numerous activities and charities.

Her first husband, Marvin S. Hawkley; her late husband, William H. Evans; her brother, Joe Meese and her parents preceded her in death.

Mary Lou is survived by her sister, Elizabeth M. Allen of Elk Grove, CA; three children, Anne (Don) Mitchell of Jerome, ID; Craig (Debra) Hawkley of Bismarck, ND; and Lynn (Marleen) Hawkley of Redding, CA. 12 Grandchildren, 9 Great grand children.
Stepchildren, Denise (Wayne) Duncan of West Sacramento, CA and Terri Balbi of Antelope, CA; and daughter in-law, Candace Evans of Elk Grove, CA; 5 step grand children and 1 step great grand child.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on January 27th at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 9085 Calvine Road, Sacramento, CA. A reception will immediately follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary Lou’s memory to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 9085 Calvine Road, Sacramento, CA 95829
