Mary Magdelene "Boss" Daly

Mary Magdelene Daly “Boss” of Carmichael, CA passed away peacefully on January 15, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born on July 1, 1931 in Johnston County, NC to Adam Jack Woodard and Martha Ann Phillips. She is proceeded in death by her husband James Edward Daly. Survived by her son, Darrell Daly (Kim), daughters Rosemary Jones (Kevin), and Jerri Zakrzewski (Tomasz) all from Carmichael, CA. Her grandsons Ryan Love (Tracy), Adam Love, Alexander Zakrzewski (Sylvia), Zachary Jones, and Cole Daly, great granddaughters Ava and Mila. Step grandchildren Christopher Jones (Jamie) and Megan Jones; step great grandchildren Kiley and Cody. Mary is also survived by her brother Billy Woodard (Patsy) of Greenville, NC and sister Shirley Morgan of Princeton, NC; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews across the US. She was proceeded in death by her brothers Willey Edmond Woodard, Albert Allen Woodard, James Milton Woodard, William Jack Woodard and David Dixon Woodard; sisters Bertha Irene Woodard, Ada Irene Barbour, Bessie Leora Johnson, Pauline Lynch, Kizzie Grace Littleton, and Edna Earl Bridgers. Mary met her husband while station at Fort Ord, CA and they were married on January 29, 1955. Mary was in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) where she was a switch board operator and was selected to model uniforms for the WAC. Mary volunteered for the San Juan Unified School District, at the various schools her children and grandchildren attended; for Mercy American River Hospital Auxiliary; and for St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church Alter Society and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD). Mary was an avid card player, playing Bridge and Pinochle two to three times a week. Mary will be remembered for her calm nature, her open support for everyone and especially for her grace and warmth. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 1 to 5 pm at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA. The Rosary will be 9:30 am Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church, 5751 Locust Ave, Carmichael, followed by Funeral Mass and gravesite services at East Lawn Mortuary. Please wear comfortable shoes if attending. Reception will be held immediately following the gravesite services at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church.
