Marjorie Claire 'Margie' Gauss

May 15, 1929 - Apr 15, 2012

Obituary

Marjorie “Margie” Claire Gauss passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012, one month shy of her 83rd birthday. She is survived by her three daughters Debbie Gorman and husband Richard, Karen Gauss, and Colleen Gauss and fiance David Ament; granddaughter Kelly Eckels and her husband Joseph and her great-grandson Brendan; brother Floyd Lehne and wife Nellda; sister, Betty Fleming; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Margie was predeceased by husband Jim; and brothers Ernie Lehne and Bill Fleming.

Born in Audubon, Minnesota on May 15, 1929, Margie landed in Cleveland then Columbus, Ohio after marrying James “Jim” Barry Gauss in 1952 while both served in the United States Navy. Margie’s stint in the Navy included time as a stewardess aboard military flights during the Korean War, as well as some office time.

Margie and Jim loved California so much during their Navy time that they packed up daughters Debbie and Karen and headed west in 1957 to find a new home there. After exploring several cities, they finally settled in Concord in 1961, where daughter Colleen was born, and where they lived until moving to Oakhurst in Clayton in 1990. After Jim’s passing in 1997, Margie and daughter Karen continued to live in Oakhurst until relocating to Del Webb Glenbrooke in Elk Grove in 2010 to be close to daughter Debbie and her family.

Margie and Jim were avid bridge players for many years where they made lots of wonderful friends. Margie also enjoyed gardening and if it wasn’t raining, you’d find her in the garden where she took much pride in caring for her flowers and other plants. She also loved to read so on rainy days, she’d often be laid back with a new book or two. The last year and a half, Margie’s greatest joy was her great-grandson Brendan who would sit on her lap and look at books, both with big smiles on their faces.

East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary has been entrusted with Margie’s final arrangements.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Arbour Lodge at Glenbrooke, 7700 Del Webb Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95757, 916-714-1010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to one of the following – St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Smile Train, Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Margie was a very caring and giving lady who will forever be in the hearts of all those who loved her so much. One of her favorite quotes is by Fran Caffey Sandin, “I have felt assured that I do not have to fear the future because God is already there.“ We love and miss you so much. Until we meet again.

I have so many great memories with Mr and Mrs Gauss. Because of them I was able to try snow skiing, water skiing, and when I would get in trouble hanging out too late with Colleen Mrs Gauss would call my mom and get me out of trouble so I could go to Santa cruz and hang out with Colleen. When in high school she encouraged me and Colleen to get involved. Because of her I joined Radio in High School. She also did a baby shower for my mom when she was expecting Nicholas. My mom never had one before and it meant alot to her. The way she cared and helped I will never forget. She will be missed.
