Marilyn Affleck Witter

Jan 16, 1934 - Aug 9, 2011

WITTER, Marilyn Affleck
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 9 after a facing her illness with remarkable dignity. She was 77. Born in Sacramento, CA on January 16, 1934, Marilyn lived a life of great diversity. After attending both Stanford and the University of Southern California, Marilyn became one of the few female pharmacists of that era. A woman of significant intelligence and a love of learning, she would later return to college to earn a Masters degree in Psychology, as well as endlessly learning and reading informally in a wide range of subjects. Marilyn also gave greatly of herself, volunteering selflessly at the Junior League of Sacramento and Weave, as well as co-founding and operating the Robert Witter Family Foundation. Beyond all these achievements, Marilyn will be best remembered for her charm and empathy, giving generously of herself to friends and family in times of need, and earning herself many loyal friends. Marilyn’s thoughtfulness and warmth shall be greatly missed by those lucky enough to have known this extraordinary woman. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents A.J. and Vedah Affleck, her husband Robert Witter, and her daughter Mary. She is survived by her brother James Affleck (Dona), sons Robert Jr (Judy), and Richard (Evelyn). Marilyn was the proud and loving grandmother of David, Margot, and Melanie, all of whom she loved dearly. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 2, at the Sutter Club, 1220 9th Street, Sacramento. Remembrances to her memory can be made to the Sacramento Public Library Foundation.
