Margie Marie Ward

Nov 7, 1924 - May 23, 2013

WARD, Margie Marie

Margie was born November 7, 1924 in Naples, Texas to Nathaniel and Isabelle LeMay. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 23, 2013 in Roseville, California. Margie lived 88 years and saw the world change in so many ways.
Margie grew up in McCrory, Arkansas. She received her education in a one-room school house in Pumpkin Bend. As the daughter of a sharecropper, Margie grew up knowing the definition of hard work. At the age of 18, she left Arkansas for the promise of opportunity in California. During WWII, Margie worked for the War Department at McClellan AFB.
In 1946, Margie married Lawrence C. Ward. Together they raised two children, Linda and Dennis before Lawrence’s untimely death in 1977. Margie worked part-time at S.H. Kress Department Store, volunteered at Smythe Elementary, Norte del Rio High School and the Northgate Little League. Fishing trips and Sacramento Solon games were a family tradition. When the Kings moved to Sacramento, Margie became their number one fan. She collected Elvis memorabilia and loved country music. Her talents included ceramics and crochet.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her siblings Maggie Williamson, Luva Foster, Arthur LeMay and Melton LeMay. Margie is survived by her daughter, Linda Bender & husband Ray and son Dennis Ward & wife Connie. She leaves behind grandchildren Tami (Digol) JBeily, Jennifer (Carey) Winborne and Kayla Ward, great- grandchildren Rachel, Hope & Jenessa, step grandchildren Sean Smith & Sara Aitchison, and Margie’s siblings Nathan LeMay & Victoria Swanson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, sense of humor and love.
Services for Margie will be held at East Lawn Mortuary 5757 Greenback Lane on Wednesday, May 29th. Visitation at 1:00, service at 2:00, committal service immediately following.
