Luis Valenzuela Rodriguez
Aug 17, 1955 - Apr 14, 2016
Luis “Apache” Valenzuela Rodriguez left this world on April 14, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. He was sixty years old.
Luis was innocent. He fought for vindication for 37 years. Lies were told about him; in the media, in the courtroom. Many betrayed him, but many more loved him and stood by him. Despite this great injustice and all the indignities he was subjected to in prison, Luis woke up every morning with a prayer of gratitude, thanking the creator for another day on earth, even if it meant it would be spent behind bars. His spirit was never broken. His sovereignty never compromised. He walked his path with dignity.
Luis was a good man. He shared what little he had with those who had less. He gave guidance and encouragement to many. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother. He was not home with us, but he was ever present in our lives.
Luis was an Apache-Mestizo warrior. His medicine was powerful. He chose his passing. He gathered us around him to see him out on his journey. He obliterated the prison from his hospital room and from his life and he passed to the spirit world a free man.
Luis was preceded in death by his granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, ex-wife, son and daughter, parents, sister and brothers, eight grandchildren, a great grandson and many other relatives and friends.
A service will be held on April 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at East Lawn Mortuary (5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento). Friends are invited to attend.
