Leonardo L Moreno

Nov 6, 1933 - Jun 28, 2015

Leonardo L. Moreno (Poncho) aka dad, grandpa, great-papa, old man, pops, uncle, and friend was a hard working, generous man who loved his family. He loved his sports, western movies, but most of all loved watching all of his grandchildren playing their sport. He made plenty of friends at the ball fields, and even helped some coaches out by encouraging them to play in all kinds of weather!

Last year’s Father’s Day was spent in Ione, riding on a mule tractor, loving the outdoors and being with family. This years Father’s Day was in the hospital, but he fought on. All week family members came in to see and love on him and he was his old stubborn Mexican self. Ready to go home, asking a grandson to give money to the nurses so he could have some water! But due to many medical complications, he lost the battle, but he went out on his own terms. He was so very happy to be a grandfather 37 years ago, that he decided that would be a good time to leave us on the birthday of his first grandchild. It’s a bitter sweet memory for us here on earth, but he is no more pain, having a beer with his brothers, sisters and numerous others.

I would like to thank you all for the prayers, love and hugs the family has received thru this difficult time, A very special thank you goes to his sons, Michael and Tom for being the care taker in his last years. A thank you to all who traveled here to pay their respects.

So on a final note, take the time to tell whoever has made a difference in your lives that you love them and most of all appreciate all what has been and will be in the future.

Grandpa, from the moment I entered into this family you welcomed me with open arms and I could just see the love you had for your family. Always generous and kind hearted, the qualities I love about Jeremy. My favorite memory is the surprise on your face when Jeremy and I chose to use the money you gave us for Christmas and take you to dinner. You were adamant about paying and realized it was one battle you would not win from one Scorpio to another. The three of us had such a wonderful evening sharing stories and spending time…I just wish we had done that more. You always put forth the effort to make it to our BBQ’s, to celebrate our babies, a house warming, graduation, birthdays or just because. I will forever love you dearly and you are so very missed!

  • Frank Moreno says:

Dad I have been thinking of what to say for days and I have decided to keep it simple as that is one of quality’s that you had and lived by. You were there for your family and supported us all in many ways. You at times would try to come across as a tough aggressive man but deep down you were a teddy bear willing accept our friends and later our spouses. Thanks for all the memories you will be missed and always loved. Frank
