Leonard P. Griffin

Oct 15, 1922 - Jul 11, 2016

7/11/16 Griff was born in Nashville, GA, the youngest of the 8 children of John & Stella Griffin. After a lengthy illness, he passed away at home surrounded by loving family. He was raised on his father’s strawberry farm in Plant City Florida, served in the Navy during WWII as a radioman on a B56 in the South Pacific, married the former Barbara Leam on June 30, 1946, graduated from the University of Florida and graduated from Auburn University as a doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1955. Griff was the proud owner of the Arden Animal Hospital on Fulton Ave, which he bought in 1957, and a long time member of the Sacramento Veterinary Association, where he served a term as President. He and Barbara raised three sons in Sacramento, before moving to Ophir, where he was a member of the school board for 10 years, and an avid grower of fruit trees and grapevines. Then, they moved on to Sun City, Lincoln for five years, and then back to Sacramento in 2004. Griff is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara, his sons, Jeff (Priscilla), Brian (Judy) and Tim, and 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and 2 local sisters-in-law. Griff and Barbara enjoyed travelling, spending time with family and friends, and their long time membership in the Riverview Social club. A memorial service will be held August 20, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 3235 Pope Ave. Sacramento, CA
