Dec 31, 1934 - Dec 31, 2019
Kiet Tran was born in Singapore in 1931. His parents were merchants trading and exporting cooking oil throughout South East Asia. Before WWII, the family left Singapore and moved briefly to Thailand and then finally settled in Vietnam. As a teenager, Kiet helped with the family business in Cu Chi, and, in 1953, he married Nhan Duong.
During the turbulent war times of the 1960’s, Kiet kept working and maintained the business. Sadly, during the 1968 TET offensive the family business in Cu Chi was burned to the ground. Kiet helped rebuild the business.
After the fall of Saigon in 1975, the communist regime took over all businesses and property from the minority Chinese, forcing Kiet to move his family to the USA in the 1989. The family settled in Sacramento, California.
His life long journey was full of challenges and much happiness. He was truly a hopeful migrant who continually sought a better life for his family. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Kiet Tran is survived by his 7 children: Lan, Cuong, Yen, Hoa, Nu, Thanh, Hue, their spouses and 11 grandchildren, and numerous family members and close friends.
