June Leona Huggins

Jun 25, 1919 - Oct 10, 2012

June L. Huggins passed away Oct. 10, 2012 at the age of 93. She was an only child, born in 1919, to Bill and Ruth Moore. She was married for nearly 35 years to her much loved husband, John Huggins, who preceded her in 1987. She grew up in Copperopolis and Angel’s Camp and graduated from Bret Harte High School. She was a loved first cousin to Ione La Franco.

She worked in several departments of the State of California for 34 years, retiring in 1974. A trivia note: While working for the Department of Social Welfare, it was June who suggested the name for the new “MediCAL” program.

In retirement, together with many friends and with her sister-in-law Mattye Tarver (deceased 1994), June pursued a variety of activities such as golf, cooking, card games, bowling and shuffleboard. She regularly attended meetings of the Vista Club until her health declined.

June enjoyed many admiring cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Tory Argentine, Carol Mode, Shelley Miller, Jane Riddle, Joan Tarver, Barbara Huggins, Jean Becker and Virginia Garner, and their children, all of whom will miss her sweetness, quick wit, faithful recognition of birthdays, keen card playing, fun sense of humor and the lively sparkle in her eyes.

Interment at East Lawn Memorial Park. Per June’s request, there will be no formal services.
