Obituary for Juanita “Nita” Bertha Allison
On the morning of March 31, 2015 at 11:15am Juanita passed away at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was comforted by her friend Helena Lee and son Paul. Juanita Allison was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 8th, 1936. She was the 8th child and the second daughter of Eva and John Harris.
Juanita attended Saint Ignatius Elementary School and then went on the West Catholic Girls High School where she belonged to a variety of clubs including the student association club and the equestrian club. She graduated there in 1956. After graduation she worked in sales.
She met the love of her life at a cousin’s house. She couldn’t resist a man in uniform. He was in the Air Force. After a long courtship they joined their hands in marriage on September 6, 1958. Out of this union two children were born Guenevere and Carl. She traveled many places while being a Military wife and in 1969 the Military brought her and family to Sacramento, California. She got a job working for Albertson’s and worked as head checker for 24 years until she was injured on the job and had to retire. She did not let any grass grow under her feet. She was involved in many organizations. Amway, World Class Travel, Zeek rewards, and Autum Leaf Real Estate Investment just to mention a few and she also created a few of her own. Night of 100 Wishes is just one that she did in memory of her grand-daughter LaCresha.
She traveled to several places with her organizations. Atlanta, GA, Ghana Africa, Philadelphia just to mention some.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Carl Allison, Jr., son-in-law Elbert Johns, granddaughter LaCresha Brown-Johnson, brothers Eugene, John, Arthur, John and Raymond Harris; sisters Lavenia Bishop and Ann Harris; sister-in-law Katherine Williams and her parents Eva and John Harris. Juanita is survived by two children Guenevere Johnson of Sacramento, CA and Carl Allison and wife Lisa of San Diego, California, five grandchildren David and Daniel Allison, Sarah,
J. Alexander and Elizabeth Johnson. Her brother Edward Harris of Philadelphia, PA, sisters Willie Mae Ladson of Philadelphia, PA, Celestine Brooks of Glouster, VA, Carrie Saunders and husband Harold of Philadelphia, PA and Sereda Aston and husband Ken of Middletown, DE. Sisters-in-law Dorothy Haskins and Husband Henry of Philadelphia, PA, Marie Butler of Philadelphia, PA, and Josephine Mackin of Philadelphia, PA and God daughter Kim Hines of Sacramento, CA and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends and her two babies (dogs) J.D. and Jessica.
A special thank you to her dearest friends that were at her bedside to comfort her in her final days. Darcey Allen, Helen Harris, Helena Lee, Paul Swinton II, Sharon Stoddard, Dorothy Reed, Theola Shoots and her daughters, Mr. & Mrs. Hubble and Salvador and Elvira Gonzolas.
A memorial service will be held for Juanita. It will be presided over by Reverend Freda Cash and will be at:
Murph-Emmanuel A.M.E. Church
