Joseph Francis Mathieu, 96, of Elk Grove, passed away on October 10, 2015 at Elk Grove, CA.

He was born on June 22, 1919 to Joseph and Anna (St. Cour) Mathieu at Detroit, MI. Joseph joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. after school. As World War 2 approached he joined the US Army and was sent to Louisiana for training. There he met his bride Mary Shirley. On June 6, 1941 they married. Joe and Mary traveled with his military career for the next 28 years. After his military career Joe and Mary settled in Edmonds, WA. Joseph started a second career working for an Electronics firm retiring in the early 80’s. His retirement years were filled with charity work with his church, his hobbies (carving, rug making, reading and his passion crossword and word puzzles).. Joseph and Mary recently moved to Elk Grove, CA.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Past Grand Knight), as well as St. Vincent’s Society.

Joseph is survived by his loving spouse of 75 years Mary, Daughter Margaret Anne Cunningham of Hartville, OH, Two Sons, Patrick Aloysius Mathieu of Livingston, TX, Joseph Stephen Mathieu of Seattle, WA; Nine Grand children and ten great grand children.

He was preceded in death by Son, John Christopher Mathieu, Father, Joseph Mathieu, Mother, Anna Marie Mathieu.

Private family services will be held at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary, Sacramento, CA.

Inurnment will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
