Joe D. Fair was born August 6, 1946 in Herlong, California to the union of Morell Fair & Maggie Mae Whitehead. He was the 3rd oldest child. The family relocated to Sacramento, CA during his infancy.
“Big Joe” or “triple OG” as he preferred to be called attended North Avenue elementary school up until his teenage years attending Grant Union High School where he was well known and well respected, graduating class of 1965. Upon completing his high school journey Joe went on to serve in the US Army stationed in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968 and received an Honorable Discharge. With wide open eyes, a glimpse was made by two, Joseph D. Fair & Patricia Ann Thomas Fair, became one on July 28, 1966. Together as one, Joe and Pat were more than husband and wife they were best-friends. The union was blessed with 7 children; 5 girls; 2 boys. Joe being a full time husband and father made sure his household was faithfully taken care of working at several Hospitals. He was all about his family. Big Joe or “Papa Joe “as his grandchildren referred to him by, was a well-known figure in the Del Paso Heights area. Joe kept it real with his hustle, and he always told us to be the best at whatever you choose to be in life. He never sugar coated anything he did. He had a passion for cooking often hosting big barbecues with the best home-made barbeque sauce in town. Joe had a large heart and compassion for others; he especially had a love for helping those in need and talking to them about never giving up. Joe loved to play penuche and chest often spend hours playing with his grandson Chris. He was very humorous and made friends very easily. He was well known and loved from state to state putting Sacramento on the map paving the way for the up and coming generations.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents Isom & Mary Gilmore, and Mr. & Mrs. Doe Whitehead; his parents, Morell & Maggie Fair; his sister Willie Lee Patterson, his brothers Morell Fair, III and Maurice Truly Fair, and his nephew James Patterson.
Big Joe leaves to cherish His memories: his wife of 50 years Patricia Ann Fair, sons; Joe D. Fair, Jr. (Sophia), Joseph Damon Fair (Tiffany), David Fair (Demetra); daughters Raylene Ruthledge (Mark), Carmen Andrews (Julian), Mary Augustus (Anthony), PJ Fair-Peterson (Zebulon), Patrice Fair-Meadows (Tony), and Jomika Fair, brothers, Donald Ray Anderson (Linda), & Melvin Fair; sisters, Dolly Walker, Marcelle Nichols (Henry) & Mary Burton (Alban); 3 Sister In-laws; 4 Brother In-laws; His Best friends; Eddie and BayBay Horton; 30 Grandchildren, 50 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews & friends.
