Obituary

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the age of 83, Josefa Clavel “Pep” Diao Baladjay, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Elk Grove. Pep was born on December 13, 1936, in Cebu City, Philippines, to the late Jose and Clavel Diao. She graduated high school from the University of Southern Philippines and earned her bachelor’s degree from Silliman University. In the Philippines she helped manage her family’s printing press, pension and boarding house businesses. Later she worked as Clerk/Stenographer at the City Attorney’s Office. She ran her husband George’s law practice, functioning as the office manager and legal secretary. She immigrated to the United States with their four daughters, following her husband in 1984. While in Michigan she worked for Michigan State University and later with the State of Michigan as Secretary to the Director of the Department of Mental Health. Pep will be remembered as sweet, mild-mannered, kind-hearted, and hard-working. She played the piano, and loved her flowers and house plants. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Grace, and brother Rolando. Pep is survived by George, her husband of sixty years; four daughters, Liza Mae Congjuico (Jessie), Ley Esther Arquisola (Rico), Love Georgette Fretland (Erik), and Lesley Jo Lindley (John); and grandchildren Katrina Noelle, Jaine Kay, Jon Nicolai, Karlo Samuel, Amelia Clavel, Ethan Aram and Henry Charles.
Pep’s family is forever grateful to her home care providers at A Caring Hand who loved and cared for her.

Viewing and a Celebration of Life will be at East Lawn Memorial Park at 9189 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624 on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
The funeral service will be held at her church, Elk Grove United Church of Christ at 9624 Melrose Ave, Elk Grove, CA 95624 on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:00am. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park followed by a reception onsite. Flowers are welcome and appreciated, please send to East Lawn Memorial Park.
