John Dekrell

Jun 4, 1927 - Mar 31, 2016

John Dekrell was born 89 years ago today, June 4th, 1927, and on the evening of March 31, 2016, surrounded by his family, he was called home to be with the Lord and re-united with his beloved wife of 64 years, Rose. John was born in Yugoslavia and came to the U.S. where he met Rose. Settling in Pennsylvania, they had 4 children. In 1961, the family moved to California where John was a successful barber, owning his own shop for over 40 years. He was active in the Lions Club and very involved in programs for the mentally challenged, serving on the board and receiving numerous awards of recognition for his devotion and support to their needs. His interests included bowling, cooking, baking German recipes and gardening. He had the best tomatoes! He was incredibly talented & knowledgeable in all fields of handyman projects which we all admire to this day. John is survived by his children; Rosemarie, Jack (Jackie), Helen, and Susan (Andres). His Grandchildren; Nicole, Jessica (Adam) and Andy. Also, Great –grandchild, Simon John. All of whom have wonderful memories of their grandparents. We will always remember our parents for their love for family. They will forever be missed.

Rosie, I know how difficult it is right now. Your dad is not far away and he is smiling with you at every little move Simon makes. Laurie came into my life when my mom died and Gracie came into my life when Phil died. They brought rays of sunshine into my world when everything seemed so bleak. Simon has already done it for you. Give him extra kisses… thoughts and prayers are with you. When you are ready let’s do lunch. xxoo Kathy

Rosie, what a wonderful life your dad had. I had no idea that he was in the Lion’s Club, owned his own Barber shop, did gardening, fixed things, cooked, helped mentally challenged youth and received so many awards. What a talented man! He will be missed. You were a devoted daughter to the end.
