Joanne Elizabeth Hormel left us on June 29, 2022 from complications of a stroke. She was surrounded by her family at the home of her son Michael in El Dorado Hills California. Joanne was the beloved wife of sixty years to Willis Dean Hormel, who pre-deceased her in 2018, mother to Michael, James, Robert, Susan and Matthew, grandmother to nine and great-grandmother to three.
Joanne was born in Mankato, Minnesota to Alfred and Betty Culhane in 1932. She was raised in Napa, California and graduated from Holy Names College in Oakland. After their marriage in 1957, Willis and Joanne eventually settled in Elk Grove, California where they raised their five children and Joanne worked as a School teacher for Elk Grove Elementary School. Aside from her family and teaching, Joanne was an avid reader and bridge player.
Services will be held at the East Lawn Funeral Home in Elk Grove on August 3 at 10:00 am.

Joanne – What a beautiful picture of you. Thank you Lord – she is at peace with you. I remember Uncle Al and Aunt Betty so well and so many years ago. Sorry we weren’t together more with you and your family. Still good memories. Prayers and Blessings to all the family for wonderful memories, fun times and joyful days ahead.
    With Love

    praise Jesus..
    Dear Susan and family,
Joanne was a very special woman of God.
She was the oldest of the Culhane cousins…
and very special to me …. as the third one after Margie.
The last time i saw her, we shared about special gift God had given both of us.
When we were younger, for me at my confirmation in 7th grade, we both had the privilege to make the pledge never to drink alcohol and to offer that as a sacrifice and prayer for someone. She told me she did it for Uncle Al and I did it for my father, Joe Culhane. I saw the Lord do a mighty miracle for my father and totally deliver him from the Irish alcohol addiction in his old age and actually give him a spiritual ministry in the care home where he lived. Joanne told me she also saw miracles with Uncle Al. Glory to Jesus.
Now she is home with the Lord and and I am sure all in heaven are having a great celebration.
We thank the Lord for her and ask Him to be close to you all. May He grant you His Love and Peace to really know she is truly home and rejoicing in the Joy of the Lord.
    God bless you all.
We will remember her in the Holy Mass here, as I cannot come to meet you all and be with you to commend her to the Lord.
    God bless you.
Love and Prayers in the Spirit of Jesus,
    Sister Stephen (Stephanie Culhane)
