Jerry Dean Vayder

Dec 25, 1928 - Mar 21, 2014

Jerry passed away peacefully on the afternoon of March 21, 2014.  He was born on December 25, 1928 in Bakersfield California. He lived in Sacramento, graduating from C.K. McClatchy Senior High School in 1946, and also earned an Engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1950. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Ehlers Vayder.  He is survived by four children Janet Centrella, James (Jay) Vayder, Nancy Goree-Vayder, Dean Vayder and his companion of 12 years, Dolores (Dee) Palmer.  He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Jerry was devoted to his work with the State of California, Department of Water Resources as an engineer for over 43 years.  He was hard working and truly enjoyed his job. At home, he would “fix” anything and everything and always had a project in progress. Jerry was a long time member of the Riverview II social club, and loved playing cards with his bridge and poker group friends. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV and playing golf.

Loving words from his granddaughter, Terra: “There was nothing grandpa wouldn’t do for his family, always being the support we needed.  He was surprisingly funny and had the cutest smile.  He was a genuinely good man, showing those around him kindness and respect.  He followed the rules and took great pride in the life he built.   Now raise your glass and toast to the most amazing man I have ever known.” Grandpa, we love you so much!

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, April 6th, 2014 at 2:00pm at the East Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Miami, FL, 33134 or at or any other charity.
