Jan Min Louie
Jan 20, 1931 - Sep 26, 2016
Jan Min Louie, 85, peacefully passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 in the comfort of his home in Sacramento California.
Widowed after his loving wife Donna Louie passed away 29 years ago, he leaves his daughters Janis Chan and Janelle Louie, son-in-law Stephen Chan, and three grandchildren Michael, Kara and Jessica. He also leaves behind his brothers Jack, William, Fee and Charles Louie. He was preceded by sisters Jo Kwong, Mae Look and Penny Gee.
Jan was the third son of Kim Toon and Gee Shee Louie, and was a lifelong resident of Sacramento.
In his early years, Jan was active in sports and worked on farms, a poultry shop and other jobs including serving fountain drinks to earn extra spending money. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1949 and then attended Sacramento City College majoring in Commercial Arts. He met his future wife, Donna Woo from San Francisco, and later married on November 14, 1954 at Old St. Mary’s Church.
Jan served in the Korean war and worked for the US Air Force at McClellan for 35 years before retiring as a manager. He not only took pride in his work, but really enjoyed learning and welcomed the challenges and opportunities that this new computer processing industry created. Over the years, his IT expertise and reputation led him to be named the winner of the 1980 Air Force Logistics Command Data Automation Award.
Jan had a passion for cooking and was known by family and friends for his exquisite Chinese cuisine. As an avid fisherman, trap shooter and hunter, he was a longtime member of the Chinese Sportsman Club and held multiple officer positions including President. He found these sports to be both challenging and relaxing and truly enjoyed the rapport and close friendships he formed with his life-long friends.
A memorial service will be held at East Lawn Chapel, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA on Friday October 14 at 11:00 am. Any donations welcome toward your charity of choice.
