James Arthur Hart

Apr 7, 1916 - Jan 23, 2012

James Arthur Hart Sr. was born April 7, 1916. He and brothers Bill and John grew up in El Paso, Texas.

After high school, James graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso, with a major in geology in 1940. He met the love of his life Doris McKinney while attending church services. They married January 18, 1941. Shortly after James joined the Navy where he served as a Lieutenant in World War II during the surrender in the bay of Japan.

James and Doris eventually settled in Sacramento, California where they raised their three children Jim, Allene and Tim. He retired from Cal-Trans in 1983 where he was in charge of publications. After retirement James enjoyed coin collecting, attending church and spending time with his eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Sadly, Doris passed away in 2008 after 67 happy years of marriage. James was a devoted and loving family man who enjoyed making people smile. He entered into rest on January 23, 2012.

Jim was a wonderful man and a devoted member of Hope United Methodist Church. We were privileged to have him among us for so many years. Our prayers are with his family.

  • Betty Jo Rose says:

I met Jim & Doris when they joined Hope UMC in 1988. I admired & loved them both. Jim was such a joy to be with, & I visited him a few times a year in Folsom, always leaving with joy in my heart. He loved his God, his family & his friends. I am a better person for having known dear Jim Hart!
